Lake Arrowhead Access: Owners, Guests, Rentals & Day Visitors
Lake Arrowhead has no general public lake access. Eligible owners, invited guests and registered rental guests have different access conditions. A beach club, an owner’s dock and permission to operate a boat are separate checks. Day visitors can book an Arrowhead Queen cruise or choose a nearby public swimming lake.

Ask the host whether the home is eligible, whether your stay will be entered on the ALA rental list, and how you receive the required access card. ALA requires the owner’s current county rental permit and guest registration; guests carry photo ID and sign the required waiver. Owners outside the membership system have a separate access-card process.
ALA’s published access update allows qualifying rental guests to use the lake, trails and reserve strips. It excludes beach clubs, parks, the fishing dock, courtesy docks and Lone Pine Island. Permission for an owner’s private dock is a separate check. Rental access is therefore neither “no access” nor “all amenities included.”
Swimming, fishing and boating have different rules

Rental guests may not bring their own boats, kayaks or paddleboards onto the lake. Using a member’s craft requires the operator credentials, access documents and insurance specified in the ALA update. ALA also publishes a human-powered vessel license process. Confirm the craft and operator requirements before launching.
Resort beach access
The Lake Arrowhead Resort & Spa advertises a private beach. Confirm which registered guests can use it, seasonal opening, and the activities included before booking. A resort beach arrangement does not give you access to ALA beach clubs or permission to launch any boat you bring.
A boat ride for day visitors
The Arrowhead Queen sells sightseeing cruises from the Village. Check the operator’s current tickets and departure times; a cruise ticket does not include swimming or independent boating. Our Queen guide covers the visit.
Public alternatives
Compare nearby public swimming lakes if you have no private access. For paddling, start with the rental guide and confirm each destination’s current launch and rental rules. Access permission does not establish that swimming conditions are safe today.
Frequently asked questions
Is Lake Arrowhead open to the public?
There is no general public lake-access pass. Eligible owners and guests use private access arrangements; day visitors can book a Queen cruise or visit nearby public lakes.
Does an Airbnb give you lake access?
It can if the property is eligible and the host completes ALA’s registration and access-card process. Confirm the arrangement before booking. Beach clubs and ALA-owned docks are excluded under the rental-access update.
Can rental guests bring a kayak or paddleboard?
ALA’s rental-access update prohibits rental guests from bringing their personal watercraft. Use of a member’s craft has separate licensing, documentation and insurance requirements.
Are lake rights the same as beach-club access?
No. Access to the lake and reserve strips is different from beach-club, dock and boating privileges. Check the membership or guest category that applies to your visit.
Can I fish if I have a California license?
A license does not grant private-lake access. You also need authorized access and must follow ALA’s fishing-location rules. See the fishing guide.
