There's no camping on Lake Arrowhead itself — the lake is private — but the surrounding San Bernardino National Forest has real campsites within 5–25 minutes. Three developed Forest Service campgrounds anchor the area, all seasonal (roughly mid-April through October) and booked through Recreation.gov: Dogwood is the big full-featured one (showers, electric sites), North Shore is the small quiet one next to the trails, and Green Valley is the high, cool one near a swimmable lake. Details, fees & parking →The quick decision guide for the three Forest Service campgrounds: pick Dogwood if you want showers, flush toilets, and an electric hookup for a trailer, and don't mind the busiest, most road-adjacent site (10 min to the Village). Pick North Shore if you want quiet and trails literally out the back of camp, and you're fine without showers (5 min to the Village, the closest to the lake). Pick Green Valley if the point is to feel far away and camp near a lake you can actually swim in — it's the highest and coolest at ~7,000 ft, a mile from Green Valley Lake's public beach (25 min out, weak cell service). All three take dogs on leash.
If you're bringing an RV or want a bed instead of a tent, the standout is SkyPark Camp + RV Resort in Skyforest — 29297 Highway 18, about 10 minutes east of the Village, directly across from SkyPark at Santa's Village. It has full-hookup RV sites (50-amp power, water, waste; rigs up to ~40 ft), primitive tent sites from around $39/night, and themed vintage Airstream glamping units roughly $169–$299/night, plus a modern bathhouse, Wi-Fi, and a discount on theme-park admission. Rates are dynamic, so book early. Among the Forest Service campgrounds, only Dogwood has electric (non-full) hookups; the others are tent/dry-camping.
"Camping" near Lake Arrowhead often really means a cabin rental — a very common way to stay up here without a tent. Options range from dedicated cabin resorts like Arrowhead Pine Rose Cabins (a wooded property with many individual cabins) to hundreds of private vacation cabins on the usual booking sites. A cabin gets you a real bed, kitchen, and heat, which matters in shoulder season when campgrounds are cold or closed. Note the recurring catch on this mountain: a rental cabin does not come with lake access — Lake Arrowhead is private, so confirm any "lake access" claim directly (see our ALA access guide). Almost everything here is reservation-only through Recreation.gov, with the 6-month window opening on a rolling basis (2026 availability released April 17). If you want a walk-up / first-come-first-served site, your only real shots are the 6 first-come sites at North Shore and the 11 at Green Valley — arrive by mid-morning Friday in summer, and Green Valley has the better odds. Traveling with a big group? The forest also runs reservation-only group camps (Shady Cove, Tent Peg, Fisherman's Camp) booked through Recreation.gov or the National Recreation Reservation line. Bottom line: for fixed summer-weekend dates, reserve the moment your window opens — don't drive up and hope.
